The Beekeepers Association of Southern California is proud to present the “BECOME A BEEKEEPER” lecture series to take someone who knows absolutely nothing about bees and teach them over the course of a year what they need to know to competently keep bees. The February session will be:
INTRODUCTION TO BEEKEEPING
- Is beekeeping for you? The realities and what you can expect as a beekeeper.
- The costs involved in setting up an apiary.
- The different types of bees and the life cycle of each
- Bee stings what to do and what not to do
- Africanized bees potential threats, cautions and how to avoid
- Selecting an apiary site
- Where can I keep bees?
- How much space does it take?
This would be a perfect time for those of you out there that were considering taking up beekeeping to come out and find out what is involved. For members who have friends or relatives considering taking up beekeeping please encourage them to attend this meeting as it will set the groundwork for future lectures.
This will be followed by a question and answer session.
We look forward to seeing you all there.
